Below is an editorial attributed to JZ Knight, 67, the leader of the New Age sect commonly called Ramtha. The letter is a typical public relations stunt by an embattled celebrity, designed to manipulate the sympathy of the reader. Knight cites her birth into poverty and the abusive influence of the fundamentalist Assemblies of God church on her early life and family. At age 13 she decides that this AoG God, was “God-awful.”
Next she compares herself to President Jimmy Carter who also had a crisis of faith with fundamentalism’s demeaning the value of women. She applauds all the charitable and humanitarian work Carter does after his troubled presidency as well as his rejection of “organized” and “male-dominated” religion just “as I [JZ Knight] did.” This is like me comparing myself as a struggling artist to Van Gogh or Picasso to elevate my worth. It is argument by false comparison. I am sure Carter is not amused.
You have to be downright dimwitted not to see through Knight’s thinly veiled effort to gain sympathy. If you ask any of hundreds of ex-members, she runs an abusive cult that is entirely “male-dominated” when she poses as her trademarked spirit Ramtha. In other words, like so many New Age channelers, she takes advantage of the very male energy she so abhors in other churches to run her own “butch on stage” act.
